a well lived bland life
Is there a place for Fear in faith? We seem to have arrived at a place where we believe fear should have no place in our lives and see fear in only a negative light. Some people are offended by verses like “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), claiming that promoting a life lived in fear is life not worth living. However, contextually, these verses paint fear in a positive light. So how can fear be a good thing or is this a different kind of fear?1 Some biblical translations...

Anna and I are both making extra effort to rejoin the blog-o-sphere. The frequency of our writing diminished quite drastically over the past couple of years as the business of life engulfed us. Having...

Three months since my last post and even longer since I actually wrote anything. Truthfully there have been many times I've fully intended to post something as simple as a picture or right what was on my mind, but instead I easily found better uses for the time. I want to continue to write because its the best way I know how to progress and develop ideas as well as express whatever creativity make be lurking inside. Right now, I'm sitting on the floor with my adorable one-year-old as my beautiful wife naps...

It's been over a month since I've posted a picture so I'm going to make this short and post a few pictures. Here you go: Nora 'reading' at 4 months "What are you doing back there?" "Do you...

Oh Lord, Your glory is seen from the rising sun to the highest of the peaks,Your fingerprints are imprinted on the smallest of life to the greatest of feats,Your Plan is sovereign and everlasting,Your ways are wiser than the comprehension of the knowing,Your love, unrivaled on all the earth. Your gracious provision is undeserving to all whom you pour it upon,You build up the humble and small,And tear down the strong and haughty,Bringing all to an equal level, and glory to Your Son.Your ways are wiser than the comprehension...

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word religion? Sitting in a an uncomfortable wooden pew wearing tight akward fitting clothes listening to someone decked out in elegant robes babble on about some Paul guy? Yea me too. I once made a comment to a friend of mine that I thought traditional religion was a sham. He laughed. This coming from someone he considered religious and who attends church, oh my! I remember when a close friend of mine once made a similar comment a few years before. I of course...

I commented a few blogs ago (here) about Faith and how it relates to sin, freewill, love, and grace. Today in church, one of our pastors (Doug) taught on Faith, and I really enjoyed it. Doug recently returned from a series of trips to India, Nigeria, Peru, and Cambodia and he spoke regarding a few his experiences and things he observed while traveling. There were three stories that really blew me away, two of which involve a man named Vimal in India. Vimal is the pastor of a church which meets in his house. In is...

Time has really flown by the past few weeks as I've been preoccupied with work, reading, and working on different projects for different bible studies. Between the Monday night bible study at the Larson's (Tim's parents), Wednesday night mid-week church meetings, Saturday morning Pentateuch study, and Sunday morning Sunday-School class (currently studying a series over biblical wisdom for a fruitful life work, marriage, and family - very beneficial) I hardly find time to write. I feel overwhelmed at times, but I...
