    Godlessness

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.

    2 Timothy 3:1-9

I read this verse this morning while studying for a "bible class". I've read this countless times before, but this time through, I thought and visualized each quality that Paul speaks of (lovers of self, lovers of money, proud etc.) and I started to ponder if Paul was some how given a glimpse into our current time and that is what he was describing. I breaks my heart to not only see these qualities in non-believers, but to also see them in believers. As Christians we are called to live lives apart from the world, to "not be conformed to this world" (Romans 12:2). This doesn't mean that we are to live as social freaks, pulled completely apart from the world, circling the wagons and never stepping out into this "brave new world", but instead we are to be "lights in the darkness", to demonstrate to the watching world the love of Christ in our lives.
