a well lived bland life
Greetings. I hope that this finds you in excellent health and fortune. Life has been hectic as usual for me, filled with working 40 hours a week and about 15 to 20 hours a week in church service and classes. Being this busy has made me come to realize that's its been agrueling two months since my last vacation, so I decided it was time to put my copious amount of paid vacation to good use and visit California for the first time [italics added to emphasize sarcasm]. I will be gone October 26 through 29. Why California you ask? Our church [Oakwood Road Church - ORC] has begun and initiative to plant a church in the Des Moines area. We embarked on this mission with the assistance of people, resources, and prayers from Crossings church in San Jose, California. Crossings began as a church plant by Mike Sanchez [son-in-law of a pastor from ORC] and a close friend of his, Sean Barber. Planting a church in the Des Moines area has been a passion of ORC's for years before I became apart of it. This is will be the realization of a dream. In a conversation with Mike Sanchez I expressed interest in visiting Crossings to meet the people and experience the church there. Mike eagerly extended an invitation to join four other members from ORC in taking a trip to San Jose to join the small community of Crossings in their annual church retreat. Every year Crossings rents a couple houses on the beach for an extended weekend to fellowship in community together. This trip will be a great learning and bonding experience. Sean has already promised to teach me to surf...or at least to teach me how to attempt to surf, and I will have a chance to get to know Mike and Sean and the local members of ORC who will be joining me.
