Greetings. I hope that this finds you in excellent health and fortune. Life has been hectic as usual for me, filled with working 40 hours a week and about 15 to 20 hours a week in church service and classes. Being this busy has made me come to realize that's its been agrueling two months since my last vacation, so I decided it was time to put my copious amount of paid vacation to good use and visit California for the first time [italics added to emphasize sarcasm]. I will be gone October 26 through 29. Why California...

    Water Skiing Fun

Labor Day weekend a couple buddies and I took a trip to Minnesota to visit a friend (Mark Myhre - a.k.a Runinamuck) and do some water skiing. We drove up Friday night arriving at 2:30am, skied the next...

  • Evangelism vs Condemnation: there's a difference

Thursday night I went to the opening Iowa State Cyclones football game and something there disturbed me. In front of the main gates gathered about a half dozen people, some held large banners, and other passed out flyers. The banners held sayings such as "Jesus Saves" or something similar, proclaiming the damnation of people who do not know Christ. The group of people putting on the evangelistic show were not from Ames and probably didn't know any of the students or people they were condemning. I would to say first...

  • What have I got myself into?

It's almost midnight, and in about nine hours I leave for RAGBRAI. I'm very pumped and hope I'm prepared for what lies ahead of me. We decided to try and find an internet connection in the towns we visit so we can upload pictures and create a short blog of the days events. Please feel free to check out the Team Crazy Delicious Blog. We would all appreciate your prayers and would love to see anyone who could make it to any of our stops. See you when we return on Saturday July 29th. God Bless.

  • Quote from Napoleon Bonaparte

Recently I've been reading Jesus Among Other Gods by Ravi Zacharias, and loving every page of it. In the book Mr. Zacharias defends the absolute claims of Christ. While reading I came upon a great quote by Napolean Bonaparte. To set the context, Napolean said this while exiled at St. Helena. He called upon Count Montholon and asked him, "Can you tell me who Jesus Christ was?" After the count declined to respond, Napolean said: "Well then, I will tell you. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne and I myself have founded...

  • Birthday Thankfulness

On this day twenty-five years ago, my mother of twenty-four years old gave birth to me, after caring and nuturing a new life inside her womb for eight months and two weeks. She had to change her eating habbits, thought processes, and lifestyle all to look after this life inside of her. From my birth, through early childhood, and till the day I left their nest to set out on my own, my mother and father looked after me, doing what they could to lead me on the right path of life and providing the best they could along...

  • Religion vs Relationship

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word religion? Sitting in a an uncomfortable wooden pew wearing tight akward fitting clothes listening to someone decked out in elegant robes babble on about some Paul guy? Yea me too. I once made a comment to a friend of mine that I thought traditional religion was a sham. He laughed. This coming from someone he considered religious and who attends church, oh my! I remember when a close friend of mine once made a similar comment a few years before. I of course...

  • 500 miles and counting..

Yesterday was a monumental day. It has been almost exactly two months since I bought my bike and starting preparing for RAGBRAI, and two major events transpired during my ride yesterday. To set the stage, yesterday was a VERY windy day. While riding with the wind and down hill I set a new personal land speed record of 40.3 mph. Riding that fast with only a few inches of rubber between you and the pavement can be fairly surreal and exilerating. On my ride I also surpassed 500 total miles biked since March 30th of...

    Who's Coming With Me?

So I've decided to ride RAGBRAI this year. Jordan Cook (one of my roommates), Darren Johnson, George Stagg, Mark Stephenson, possibly my uncles and cousins, and propably a few others I'm missing have dedicated ourselves to riding 444 miles across Iowa this summer in the blistering heat and humidity. We will start with dipping our tires in the Missouri River and end with dipping our tires in the Mississippi River. The route this year goes through Polk city and Newton, so we'll be close to home. To prepare for this...
