a well lived bland life
Tonight Anna and I went on a date night in Des Moines. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory then did a bit of Christmas shopping and showed each other gift ideas for ourselves at Jordan Creek Mall. When you go to Jordan Creek Mall, you have to stop at the Apple Store. So of course we did. We walked around the store drooling over the various new gadgets and state of the art Apple computers. During our browsing we stumbled upon a nice shiny new iMac and started up Photobooth. Craziness and hysterical laughter ensued...

Four days from today I will be marrying the woman of my dreams. My wife-to-be is the most godly and wonderful person I have ever met. She is my best friend, my companion, my helper, my soon-to-be wife, and one day the mother of my children. I feel more blessed than I've ever felt before. This Saturday will mark the end of our courtship & engagement and the beginning of our life together. I love you Anna.

Way back in January I lost my digital camera in a large pile of snow on the side of a mountain. Since then I've been relatively photo-free only grabbing a few photos here and there from friends. Life without my camera was hard. It wasn't a fancy or even good camera by any means. I overpaid for it by today's standards, it had no features, and took moderate and mostly blurring photos, but it enabled me to capture people and places and that was sufficient. Well I finally piled enough funds together to buy a replacement...

The unfolding of a new chapter. A couple months ago I wrote that I was at a point where looking back, things made sense. I was standing at a point in my life where things were beginning to line up and the past was revealing why things happened the way they did. They happened to put me where I was, and to bring me to where I am now. That point in my life was the prelude to this new chapter of life. At that point I had met a woman. This woman was a godly and god-fearing woman. She met the criteria of who my wife would...

If we shrink away from possible pain and misfortune would we ever do anything? If we get injurred or almost die in a car accident, do we never drive again, or never drive near that area again? Life is too short, why shrink back and live in fear? Instead battle forth in valiance and bravery to address our fears, beating them into submission, facing them head-on with God leading the charge. Can you imagine never again climbing a mountain - never again experiencing the vast beauty and breathtaking scenery of a mountain...

I haven’t written in quite awhile so I decided that it was time. Life has been busy. Just a quick catch-up on what has been going on. The night after the avalanche Jordan Cook’s cell phone was ringing almost constantly and the battery was quickly dying. He was receiving phone calls from friends and family but also from people who you would never dream would be calling your phone: CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, Good Morning America, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Today Show etc. While we were still in the hospital news agencies...
