a well lived bland life
Holy Cow! It has been a long time since we've written anything! Where has the time gone? Anna and I have been very busy. Anna's abdomen has been growing steadily and we recently had another ultrasound and will post the pictures shortly. This past weekend we went to the Omaha Zoo and watched the caged animals. The Omaha Zoo is a great zoo but it seems the older I get the more depressed zoos make me. Watching the Lions and Tigers who are meant to be large predators who inspire fear and dread being degraded to a complacent...

One of the greatest of greatest things has happened. The miracle of life has begun to grow in the womb of my wonderfully beautiful and amazing wife. Anna discovered she was with child only days after...

Part III: Biblical Education Read What is the Church? Part I and What is the Church? Part II first. I would like to forewarn readers of this entry that this is once again my opinion and thoughts that have been bouncing around in my head. Please feel free to send me an email or leave a comment if you have reflections or ideas of points that I may have missed. Thanks! What if we approached theology the same way we do our college education? You'll find people who boast of the many all-nighters then spent in college...

he story begins yesterday when my loving wife bought me two containers of raisins to bring to work for snacking. She had set them aside in a plastic bag for me to bring to work in the morning. Upon departure this morning I grabbed the sack of raisins and mounted my mighty steed, that would be my bike, not knowing the adventures that lay before me. About half way to work it happened. The cheap plastic grocery bag buckled under the weight of the two large containers of raisins and released one of them to the pavement...

I'm currently finishing the book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense by N.T. Wright. The book has been a fairly good one and I have enjoyed reading it. I'm presently in the last twenty pages of the book and read something I felt like sharing. If you have any feedback on your thoughts feel free to share them. "Despite what many people think, within the Christian family and outside it, the point of Christianity isn't 'to go to heaven when you die.' "The New Testament picks up from the Old the theme that...

Anna asked yesterday, "Ok, who broke spring?" That is the question. What happened to spring? The weather in Iowa has been crazy to say the least: devastating tornados in northern Iowa on Sunday, thunderstorms popping up across the state almost everyday since, and more rain than one can "shake a stick at". In fact, so much rain has fallen that there is no longer a stick to be shook as it has washed away along with the Spring we were so wonderfully enjoying. Yesterday rain came down in blankets. Just when you thought...

Part II: Household of God Read What is the Church? Part I first. This one took awhile to transfer my thoughts to paper. It may need some editing and will most likely evolve over the next few weeks. I welcome feedback if you have some. "When Scripture talks about church, it means community. The little fellowships of the heart that are outposts of the kingdom. A shared life. They worship together, eat together, pray for one another, go on quests together. They hang out together, in each other's homes. When Peter...

We have had a few people inquiring into the effects of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and whether anyone we know was affected or injured. Steve Larson, whom we have both traveled with to Myanmar, was actually on his way into Myanmar when the cyclone hit, and arrived only a few days after the cyclone. He returned late last week and has sent us an update on what he learned while in Myanmar (Burma). The following is an excerpt from his update: We arrived in Yangon on Tuesday, May 6th after Cyclone Nargis ravaged the Irrawaddy...

Part I: Purpose Several years ago I became involved in a summer-long intense study that shaped my thinking on my life in light of God and His plan at a pivotal time in my life; right before college graduation. I was starting to decide the direction my life would take after I received my diploma. Like many people in my major I had been looking to the big cities of the Midwest United Stated in hopes of landing that all important internship with a large flagshipcompany and filling my pockets with money. At the same...
