    One Week Old

Nora turned one week old yesterday. It was surprisingly hard for us to know that our little peanut was already a week old. We've been enjoying every moment we have with our little girl. We have heard...

  • Top Ten List

The following is a top ten list of important things from the past few days: Sleep is not something to take for granted. Bowel movements and urinating are very important activities. Having a team of nurses at your disposal is not something to take for granted. Hospital rooms are very dry. There is definitely a wonderful design behind the pregnancy, labor, delivery, and nursing. Seeing your child being born is incomparable to anything else. Being able to console your child and get her to sleep is an emotional...

  • Fragmentation of Scripture

I'm currently reading Practicing Gospel by Edward Farley. Farley takes some fairly radical stances on how the Gospel is preached in our western culture. Many of his arguments would most likely make many uncomfortable as he forces us to rethink much of what we've grown up with or the tradition we've taken for granted. This is not to say that his argument is not a valid argument, although I'm not sure I completely agree with all his conclusions in the book. However, one point that Farley brings up that really caused...

  • Dear Spring

Groundhog's Day When I was a young gullible lad, I believed that Punxsutawny Phil, the famous groundhog who struts his stuff in front of the nation every February on Groundhog's Day, actually determined the length of winter. I wondered what kind of sick and twisted animal would actually choose to put us through six more weeks of sub-zero temperatures regardless of its shadow. If this animal actually possessed this power why wouldn't he join the ranks of Superman or Spiderman and use these gifts for good? I'm sure...

  • Baby Training

Anna is now 29 weeks pregnant meaning our bundle of joy should arrive in about 11 weeks. I hate to admit it, but even though I have a niece and three nephews I still have yet to change a diaper. I don't think I'm alone in almost being a parent and not changing a diaper before. Well, tonight Anna had me put a diaper on her stuffed elephant, Wally. Yes, my first experience of diapering was with a stuffed elephant. Overall it was a easy experience. Relatively clean and furry. Although the tail made it somewhat tricky...

    Enhanced Photography

With the little one on the way I've been contemplating our photographical capabilities and decided even with our nice Canon SD700 point-and-shoot the photographer in me wouldn't be happy. A friend of mine happened to be selling the very camera I wanted and since it appeared it was meant-to-be I pulled the trigger and bought our new Nikon D40. I've now had the camera over about a week and half and can't seem to pry the camera from my hands. For those of you who know me, this shouldn't come as a surprise. I think...

  • Godlessness

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture...

  • BILD International Conference

Our church wrapped up our international conference this weekend after having 70+ people from around 25 different countries flock to our church for a week and a half long training period. During their time at our church these foreign church leaders (some of whom are responsible for literally hundreds to thousands of churches in their home countries) stay in the homes of the members of our small little church and enjoy the hospitality of Christ's church. Friday night Anna and I (along with Grandpa and Grandma Bland...
