a well lived bland life
I commented a few blogs ago (here) about Faith and how it relates to sin, freewill, love, and grace. Today in church, one of our pastors (Doug) taught on Faith, and I really enjoyed it. Doug recently returned from a series of trips to India, Nigeria, Peru, and Cambodia and he spoke regarding a few his experiences and things he observed while traveling. There were three stories that really blew me away, two of which involve a man named Vimal in India. Vimal is the pastor of a church which meets in his house. In is...

What is the point? Does everything have a purpose? Is life a meaningless series of events ultimately leading to death and nothingness? Or is there a reason why you and I exist? Is there an omnicient, omnipotent, loving, justful, and ever-present God? May seem like a strange way to start out, but they're questions that we all have to address at some point in our lives. Even if you never ask yourself these questions, you're still going to make unconscience decisions on them through the way you live your life. What...

Time has really flown by the past few weeks as I've been preoccupied with work, reading, and working on different projects for different bible studies. Between the Monday night bible study at the Larson's (Tim's parents), Wednesday night mid-week church meetings, Saturday morning Pentateuch study, and Sunday morning Sunday-School class (currently studying a series over biblical wisdom for a fruitful life work, marriage, and family - very beneficial) I hardly find time to write. I feel overwhelmed at times, but I...

I finally decided on a name for my blog (needs salt). If you don't get the joke, don't think about it for too long or you may end up hurting yourself. Anyway I think I may have also finally decided on colors as well, so if you're sick of coming to this site and not knowing if its mine of not because the colors and logo have changed, rest assured it should be the same for awhile.......maybe. Also if you attempt to connect to the site and its not being found, it's usually because I run this website off a server in...

Happy New Year! I hope everyone rang in the new year with a bang, I however didn't make it to midnight and fell asleep shortly after 11pm. The night of the 30th I didn't sleep well and had to wake up...

Well today is the last day before I leave for Myanmar. I will be leaving for the airport in Des Moines tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM, and our flight leaves at roughly 8:50. I will then be traveling for the next 30 hours and will arrive in Yangon, Myanmar on December 16th (after spending a brief night in Bangkok: flight arrives at 11pm and next flight leaves at like 6am). When I arrive it will still be the 15th here in Iowa, so I will actually be in the future. I wonder if they'll have flying cars in the future...

Work has been hectic/productive the past few days which has allowed time to scurry by unnoticed. Which is great because its already six days until I leave! (For those of you who don't know yet: On December 14th I leave for Myanmar for 17 days returning New Years Eve). During the seemingly continuous escapade of phone calls today I managed to fill-out and turn-in my request for time off sheet totaling 88 hours of vacation: [(14 total work days missed) - (1 day comp. time for being on call this coming weekend...

So Grandma Sue, Mom's Mom, went into the hospital Saturday afternoon because she was experiencing pains in her stomach, and it turned out that she had Appendicitis and had to have her Appendix removed that night. I visited her Sunday and she was released Monday and is doing well. While I was at the hospital my mom asked me if I had started taking my immunizations, at which I exclaimed, "Rut Row." I was supposed to start taking my prescription for Typhoid fever on the 1st of December (the previous Thursday). Of course...

Thanksgiving was a blast. I got my fill of good food and desert and got to spend a lot of time with family. As of every holiday I sat around watching football, playing games, and watching about six or seven movies while eating more food. I really enjoyed talking with my family and telling them more about my trip to Myanmar and the activities that will ensue. I had a hard time explaining that our trip isn't a missionary trip in traditional terms, but rather a trip to visit, encourage, and further establish the existing...
